National Instruments PXI Slot Blocker

The PXI Slot Blocker (Part Number: 199198-01 (Kit included 5 Slot Blockers) is specially designed to occupy and provide a protective cover to empty slots in controllers and chassis to keep up system quality and performance. The PXI Slot Blocker is compatible with PXI, CompactRIO, and CompactDAQ chassis and control parts. The PXI Slot Blocker includes slot covers that are blank or non-functional models,

The PXI Slot Blocker serves an important functional purpose. The PXI Slot Blocker increases performance by increasing total system cooling. Airflow within the PXI chassis is redirected away from empty slots and towards PXI module-occupied slots. 

The PXI Slot Blocker is intended for use with the following PXI chassis alternatives: NI PXI-104x Series, NI PXI-1050, NI PXI-1052, NI PXIe-106x Series, and NI PXI-103x Series. The PXI chassis alternatives for which the PXI Slot Blocker is recommended are those with fans located in the rear or with fans positioned below the card cage. The PXI Slot Blocker is not recommended for use with NI PXI chassis options in which the chassis is a dual-stacked configuration. 

To setup the PXI Slot Blocker, assemble the following components: compatible PXI or PXI express chassis, system controller corresponding to the PXI and PXI express chassis, peripheral modules for the PXI or PXI express, PXI Slot Blocker, and PXI filler panels(sold separately).  Insert the NI PXI Slot Blocker into all empty slots of the PXI chassis. Over all slots containing an NI PXI Slot Blocker, install a PXI filler panel (sold separately). 

The PXI Slot Blocker leverages its engineered compatibility with the PXI and PXI express configurations to improve reliability and life span of the PXI system by improving the system’s ability to actively cool itself. While in use, the PXI Slot Blocker moves air away from open slots to filled slots. The PXI Slot Blocker should be used in applications in which enhanced cooling is required.
